Cheeseboro Canyon

Area Summary
Location: Agoura Hills
Best For: Intermediates
Suitable For: All levels
Ground Cover: Grasslands, chaparral, woodlands
Seasons: Fall through spring. Hot in summer.

Description:
As a SoCal resident for eight years, I came to appreciate the austere beauty of the chaparral-covered slopes that cover most of the terrain. That said, I sure appreciated the change of pace that Cheeseboro Canyon offered with its oak-dotted grasslands, more reminiscent of Northern California. The great scenery and some of the best riding in Southern California make Cheeseboro a premier destination.

Situated just north of the 101 Freeway near Agoura Hills, Cheeseboro Canyon and the adjacent Palo Comado Canyon offer great rides for all abilities. The main fire roads run gently through the alternating open and lush terrain. Ride further inland however, and you'll find great single-track that will challenge more advanced riders. The recent addition of land parcels to the east and north has greatly extended the range of technical riding that can be enjoyed here.

Cheeseboro Canyon is very popular with all user groups, particularly equestrians. Please be exceptionally cautious and respectful to ensure everyone's safety and to maintain the fragile peace that exists among user groups.

Directions to trailhead(s):
The main trailhead for Cheeseboro and Palo Comado Canyons is off Chesebro Road in Agoura Hills. From Hwy. 101 take the Chesebro Road exit (between Kanan Road and Malibu Canyon). Head north and go right on Cheseboro Road. In .8 miles go right into Cheeseboro Park entrance. Parking is .2 miles ahead. Additional access points are in Thousand Oaks on Smoketree and Doubletree roads.
