Description:
Anyone whose impression of Los Angeles comes from the national media would be shocked to discover the beautiful and abundant open space within the city limits. The Topanga State Park vicinity lies smack between the major population areas of Los Angeles' west side and the San Fernando Valley, offering millions of area residents great recreation opportunities including miles of open fire roads and even single-track for mountain bikers.
While close to the city, Topanga State Park retains a true "wilderness" feel, with rugged terrain and all sorts of wildlife. The vegetation is typical Southern California chaparral punctuated by wooded streamside areas.
While the recommended rides are geared towards more advanced riders, the fire roads here are great places for beginners to learn. The fire roads (Sullivan Ridge, Westridge and Canyonback) are moderate and sport parallel single-track trails with multiple access points.
