Route 2
Aerobic:
Advanced
Technical: Advanced
Notes: A classic ride for advanced riders. Some exposed sections Use
Caution
Riding Note: The San
Juan Trail gets heavy weekend use by downhillers
using car shuttles. Uphill riders should get an early start to avoid
the rush, and use caution near blind corners.
Start at the parking
area for the San Juan Trail on Hot Springs Canyon
Road. Head up the long but rarely too steep single-track, negotiating
the numerous loose and rutted switchbacks. The steady uphill continues
with long, easily rideable stretches punctuated by short technical
(unrideable by most humans!) sections.
6.2 miles left on Old San Juan Trail at "Lunch Rock"
8.5 miles right on San Juan Trail
11.8 miles back at Lunch Rock. Stay left to head back to parking area.
The downhill is decidedly more fun than the uphill was. You'll even be
able to clean many of those switchbacks. Be courteous to uphill riders!
