Directions to trailhead(s):
Ride 1 - Starts from Downieville on Hwy. 49, 45 miles northeast of Nevada City.

Ride 2 - From Downieville, drive east on Hwy. 49 for 18 miles to the town of Bassetts. Turn left on Gold Lake Highway. In 1.3 miles turn left on Packer Lake Road. In 0.25 miles stay right, and then continue for 4 miles to Packer Saddle.

Notes: Loop can also be ridden by heading up Second Divide and down Third Divide Trails. Start early on weekends to avoid rush of downhill riders.

Start in town of Downieville and head north on Main Street. Keep bearing right to stay on Main Street as it starts to climb. Main Street turns to dirt at 1.0 miles and becomes Lavezzola Road. Keep climbing past trailheads for First and Second Divide Trails.
4.6 miles stay right at fork
4.8 miles right on Third Divide Trail just past Empire Ranch. Third Divide climbs, sometimes steeply.
7.1 miles right on Second Divide Trail
11.6 miles right on Lavezzola Road.
11.8 miles left on First Divide Trail
13.2 miles go around fence and cross Lavezzola Road, staying on a fire road
13.4 miles right on First Divide Trail single-track, which descends toward town
14.9 miles left on Main Street
15.8 miles Finish

Option 1- Downieville Downhill via Butcher Ranch Trail
   Aerobic: Intermediate.  Technical: Advanced.
Option 2 - Downieville Downhill via Pauley Creek Trail
   Aerobic: Advanced.  Technical: Advanced.
Notes: Please use caution and be courteous of other users. Avoid skidding to minimize impact on trails.

Begin ride at Packer Saddle, heading west down paved road. Use caution on steep, paved descent. Accidents are common here. In 0.5 miles, stay right toward Butcher Ranch Meadow.

Option 1
1.2 miles left on Butcher Ranch Trail. Descend steep, often rocky trail, past meadows and through evergreen forest. 6.1 miles stay left on Second Divide Trail and follow directions from Ride 1 to finish at 14.9 miles.

Option 2
1.2 miles stay on fire road (93-3) past Butcher Creek Trail. 4.8 miles left on fire road just past stream crossing. 6.1 miles left at signed intersection. 6.6 miles stay left. Fire road soon turns to Pauley Creek single-track. 9.1 miles right on Butcher Ranch Trail. 11.1 miles stay left on Second Divide Trail and follow directions for Ride 1 back to town and finish at 19.9 miles.
