Santa Ana Mountains - Central Featured Rides

Directions to trailhead(s):
The trailheads are reached via Santiago Canyon Road, which connects El Toro Road (at I-5) to the south with Chapman Ave. (at Hwy. 55) to the west. The following direction are from El Toro Rd. at I-5. Trabuco Canyon: El Toro Rd. NE for 7.5 miles, right on Live Oak Canyon Rd. for 4.5 miles, left on Trabuco Canyon Rd. (dirt) for 4.5 miles to Holy Jim trailhead. Santiago Trail: El Toro Rd. NE for 9 miles, right on Modjeska Grade Road for .5 miles. Trailhead is on the right. Street parking is limited. Silverado Trail: El Toro Road NE for 13.5 miles, right on Silverado Canyon Rd. for 5.4 miles to trailhead.

Notes: Tough single-track climb up Holy Jim trail rewarded with great views and a fun descent.

Start at parking area near fire station at intersection of Trabuco Canyon Road and Holy Jim Trail. Head up Holy Jim, which passes through a residential area before narrowing to a single-track. The Holy Jim Trail climbs continuously for almost five miles to the Main Divide Trail.

4.8 miles right on the Main Divide Fire Road
9.5 miles stay left on Main Divide where it connects with Horsethief Trail. Continue on Main Divide through  intersections with a few other trails.  
12.0 miles right on Trabuco Trail
14.6 miles stay left
16.2 miles pass through gate. Single-track becomes a fire road.
17.2 miles Finish





Featured Route 2

Aerobic: Intermediate/Advanced
Technical: Intermediate


Begin at the trailhead for the Santiago Trail on Modjeska Grade Road. Please note that there is limited roadside parking here. Ride up Santiago Trail, which alternates between fire road and single-track as it winds through chaparral and grasslands.
3.3 miles stay left at turnoff to Vulture Crags single-track. For a much shorter loop, riders can head down Vulture Crags to Live Oak Canyon Rd. and complete the loop on pavement.
7.4 miles stay left at clearing to remain on single-track, which descends to Old Camp.
8.0 miles Old Camp turnaround point. Retrace route back to parking area.
16.0 miles Finish
